Tour Details
At your selected time, we'll meet you at the entrance of the Padula Charterhouse to begin our guided tour of this monastery, a World Heritage Site.
Known as the Monastery of San Lorenzo, this 14th-century site is the second-largest Carthusian complex in Italy and among the largest in Europe. During the tour, you'll explore the cloisters, visit the kitchens and refectory, and see the treasury alongside the church's Baroque architecture.
As we guide you through the Padula Charterhouse, we will share insights about its history, including its sacking by Napoleon's soldiers and its use as a prison during World War I.
The tour will also include a visit to the Archaeological Museum of Western Lucania, located within the monastery. You will see ancient artifacts such as vases, ancient coins, and everyday utensils, dating from the protohistoric to the Hellenistic period.
After a 2-hour visit, we will conclude our tour within the monument complex. If desired, you are welcome to continue exploring the monastery at your own pace after the tour.
