Tour Details
At your chosen time, we'll meet you at the entrance of the Padula Charterhouse to start our guided tour of this monastery, which is a World Heritage Site.
Also known as the Monastery of San Lorenzo, this 14th-century monument is the second-largest Carthusian complex in Italy and one of the largest in Europe. During our guided tour, you'll walk through the cloisters, head inside the kitchens and refectory, see the treasury and the church's exquisite Baroque architecture.
As we explore the Padula Charterhouse, we'll share facts about the building's history, including its sacking by Napoleon's soldiers and its use as a prison during World War I.
We'll then enter the Archaeological Museum of Western Lucania, located within the monastery's premises. Here, you'll see ancient artefacts such as vases, ancient coins and everyday utensils from the protohistoric to the Hellenistic period.
After a 2-hour visit, we'll conclude our tour inside the monument complex. If you wish, you can continue exploring the monastery at your leisure.
