Kawiti Glowworm Caves, Hundertwasser Exhibition Centre & Opua Forest Tour
- 4 Stunden
Description
On the day of the activity, we'll meet at the Paihia Information Centre at the scheduled time. This tour includes the Kawiti Glowworm Caves, the Hundertwasser Exhibition Centre, and Opua Forest.
Firstly, we'll visit the Glowworm Caves, where a local Maori guide will lead us through a 200-meter-long system of limestone caves for around 30 minutes. The tour involves walking along a wooden boardwalk with handrails, showcasing thousands of glowworms illuminating the cave ceilings and stunning stalactites and stalagmites. The guide will explain the life cycle of the glowworm and its blueish-green tail light.
Next, we will proceed to Kawakawa, known for the "Hundertwasser Toilets," designed by Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser in 1999 using recycled materials. We'll also visit the Hundertwasser Cultural Centre, which opened on February 22, 2022, showcasing works by Hundertwasser and local Maori arts. Before leaving Kawakawa, we will enjoy a fresh cream doughnut.
Our final stop is Opua Forest, home to Kauri trees over 1000 years old. We will return to the Wharf, passing by the Waitangi lookout for memorable photos.
This 4-hour tour concludes back at the starting point.
