After experiencing several wars, Lakam Ha' was abandoned and forgotten until its rediscovery in the heart of the jungle. Today, it exemplifies Maya urban planning and architecture.

Inside the archaeological site of Palenque, you'll find numerous monuments, including the Temple of the Inscriptions, the tallest structure at 25 metres (82 feet). Here, the Maya king K'inich Janaab' Pakal was buried. Other notable temples include the Temple of the Cross, the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of the Skull, and the Tomb of the Red Queen. At the Great Palace, admire well-preserved reliefs and explore the tower used by priests to observe the sunset, all set in a lush natural jungle.
