Visit Palermo's Three Most Beautiful Churches
Our meeting point is the Palermo Quattro Canti Hotel, where we'll set off on a tour that unveils the beauty of three of Palermo's most noteworthy churches.
First is the Church of San Giuseppe dei Teatini, the most visited church in Palermo. Inside, the frescoes exemplify Sicilian baroque art, and two holy water fountains sculpted by Ignazio Marabitti are featured here.
A short walk from San Giuseppe leads us to the Church of Santa Caterina, dedicated to St. Catherine of Alexandria. This temple combines late Renaissance features on its facade with a baroque interior. We'll admire its choir, main altar, chapels, and frescoes while discussing the history of this convent church.
Our final stop is the Church of Gesù, or Casa Professa. The austere exterior of this 17th-century Jesuit church contrasts sharply with its ornate interior, featuring sculptures, polychrome inlays, marble ornaments, and frescoes. We'll share details about the building and its post-World War II challenges.
After three hours of exploration, we'll conclude the guided tour with a farewell outside the Church of Santa Caterina.
