On this tour into Palermo's catacombs, you'll get to see the remains of hundreds of mummies and uncover the secrets hidden under Sicily's capital city.
About Palermo's Capuchin Catacombs
The Palermo Catacombs stretch through interconnected galleries carved into volcanic rock, covering an area of around 300 square meters. These burial chambers hold about 2,000 skeletons and mummified bodies, including the remains of the Count of Cagliostro.
Mummies were placed in different galleries according to gender, social status, and profession. The oldest corridor is occupied by the Capuchin Friars, who are mummified in traditional garments. There is a room dedicated to priests, preserved in their religious robes.
Other areas include the women's corridor, the Chapel of the Crucifix, the men's corridor, the Chapel of the Children, and the corridor of families.
