Description
Day 1: Arrival in Bhutan - Thimphu
Upon landing at Paro International Airport, you will be warmly greeted and whisked away to your first destination, the Paro Ta Dzong, which serves as the national museum of Bhutan. Following this, you'll embark on a scenic one-hour drive along the beautiful valleys of the Paro and Thimphu rivers, eventually arriving at Thimphu, the capital city located at an elevation of 2,320 meters (7,611 feet).
Along the route, take the opportunity to visit the stunning Tamchhog Lhakhang, known for its historical significance related to Bhutan’s iron bridge construction. After a day filled with exploration, enjoy a delightful dinner before settling in at your hotel.
Day 2: Thimphu
Following breakfast at your accommodation, the day unfolds with a guided tour around Thimphu. You will have the chance to discover various noteworthy locations, including the Buddha Site, the Folklore Museum, local painting schools, the bustling farmer's market, and the memorial Chorten.
As night falls, we will visit the impressive Tashichho Dzong, allowing you to appreciate this remarkable fortress illuminated under the night sky. Afterward, return to the hotel for dinner and relax after a fulfilling day.
Day 3: Thimphu – Punakha
Greetings from Bhutan! After breakfast, we will set off towards Punakha, crossing the scenic Dochula Pass. Here, take a moment to sip a warm beverage while you gaze at the breathtaking views of the western Himalayas. For a memorable experience, consider renting traditional attire for stunning photographs.
In the afternoon, we will explore the Dzong de Punakha and the famous Chimi Lhakhang, a fertility temple established in the 15th century by the revered Divine Fool (Lama Drukpa-Kuenley).
In the evening, you may opt for an exhilarating rafting adventure on the Mochu River (optional), followed by a restful dinner back at the hotel.
Day 4: Punakha – Paro – Paro Taktshang
After the day's first hearty meal, we will make our way to Paro. Upon arrival, gear up for a hiking expedition to the revered Taktshang (Tiger's Nest Monastery), which entails a trek of approximately 4 hours. If hiking poses a challenge, enjoy the magnificent views from the base instead.
Next, enjoy a scenic 40-minute drive to the Chele La Pass at an elevation of 3,300 meters (10,826 feet), where you can admire the majestic Mount Jomo Lhari.
As evening draws near, you’ll have the freedom to explore the town of Paro and its surroundings at your leisure. Dinner will be provided once again at the hotel as you wind down for the night.
