Excursion to La Cocha Lagoon & Santa Lucía Wetlands
We'll convene at Plaza de Nariño at 7:30 am and set off toward the Putumayo region, where our adventure begins with one of nature's masterpieces.
After a scenic 40-minute drive, we will reach La Cocha Lagoon, recognized as the second-largest freshwater reserve in Colombia. Here, we'll take in the breathtaking surroundings and embark on a hiking route through the picturesque town of El Puerto, nestled along the lake’s edge. As we trek, charming wooden chalets echoing Swiss architecture will captivate our attention.
Upon completing our hike, we will board a boat for a leisurely trip across La Cocha Lagoon, eventually arriving at the Santa Lucía Wetlands, an area designated as a protected site under the Ramsar Convention. During our exploration of this stunning area, we'll walk through a valley populated by frailejones, unique plant species that thrive in this environment.
Midway through our journey, we'll pause at a local farm to indulge in a lunch prepared with fresh organic ingredients sourced directly from the land. Afterward, we will continue to the community of Torres de Paz, where we will learn about the historical significance of this monument, a beacon of peace and unity.
Our tour concludes as we make our way back to Pasto, arriving at our starting point by 7:30 pm.
