Pasto Private Tour
We will meet at 2 pm at your hotel to begin a private tour of Pasto, known as the 'Surprise City' of Colombia. The tour starts with an introduction to the town followed by a walk through the historic centre. We will observe the typical architecture, focusing on the numerous churches that serve as architectural highlights.
The first stop will be the Cathedral of Pasto, inaugurated in the early 1920s, replacing a church dismantled in the late 19th century that retains relics from the original church of San Francisco, including a wooden cross and a carving of Jesus crucified.
Next, we will visit the church of San Juan Bautista, the city's first cathedral, followed by the Cristo Rey church and the Sanctuary of La Merced, the patron saint of Pasto.
We will then explore the Plaza de Nariño and the Carnival Museum, where we will discuss the Carnival of Blacks and Whites, the city’s largest folkloric festival.
The tour includes a visit to a varnish workshop to learn about a handicraft recognized as Cultural Heritage of Colombia, and conclude with an observation of the making of typical paila ice cream.
Finally, we will return to your hotel by 6 pm.
