Beijing Hutongs Guided Tour

  • 2 Stunden

On this tour of Beijing's hutongs, we'll explore the narrow alleyways that make up the Old Town of the Chinese capital. Step back in time for a traditional experience!

Beijing's Hutongs

The guided tour will begin at the historic Nanluoguxiang Hutong, an 800-meter-long (2,624-foot) alley dating back to the Yuan Dynasty, where the first hutongs and courtyard houses began to take shape.

As we walk along this alley, we'll enjoy the mix of old and modern Beijing, with trendy bars, restaurants, unique hostels, themed stores, and street vendors. We'll also see the typical gray houses and century-old trees, a living testimony of Beijing's traditional architecture.

Next, we'll head to Mao'er Hutong, formerly known as Zitong Temple, where Emperor Wenchang was worshipped. On this hutong, we'll pass Ke Yuan, an iconic garden and the mansion of the last Empress Wanrong.

Passing over the Yinding Bridge, also known as the Silver Ingot Bridge, we'll reach a narrow canal linking Qianhai Lake and Houhai Lake. This area is the center of Shichahai, surrounded by quiet hutongs, offering views of the western mountain, one of the eight ancient wonders of Beijing.

Our last destination will be Qianhai Lake and Houhai Bar Street, which was part of the ancient Grand Canal of the Yuan Dynasty 600 years ago, surrounded by ancient palaces, temples, and residences of celebrities of the past.

Then, we'll conclude this 2-hour hutong tour at Houhai Lake.
