History, crafts and folklore await on our day trip to Guática and Quinchía. We'll depart from Pereira and visit two municipalities that represent Risaralda's culture on this excursion.
Guática & Quinchía Day Trip
At 7:30 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Pereira and set off for the northern part of the Risaralda region. This mountainous area is where most of the villages in the Western Cordillera of Colombia are located.
After a 2-hour drive in our jeep, we'll arrive at our first destination, Quinchía, known as the Village of Hills ("Villa de los Cerros").
Here, we will explore the town and visit the Tierras de Xixaraca Archaeological Museum, observing its collection of Quimbaya artefacts and learning about the beliefs of local Indigenous communities.
Next, we will stop at a filigree workshop, where local craftsmen will demonstrate their techniques for this unique metalwork. Afterward, we will have lunch, featuring a traditional regional dish and a drink. Following lunch, we'll proceed to Guática, noted for its varied folklore.
In Guática, we will learn about the production of silk. In a workshop, we'll discover how mulberry trees are planted, as their leaves are essential for silkworms. We will also learn about the treatment of silk and its transformation into fabrics. Afterward, you will have time to purchase souvenirs to commemorate this unique experience. We will return to Pereira, arriving at your hotel by approximately 4:30 pm.
Tour without lunch
If you'd prefer to bring your own lunch with you, this is the best option for you. You'll have time to have lunch on your own before we visit Guática.
