Hike in the Otún Quimbaya Sanctuary
Your adventure begins at 8 am with a hotel pickup as we set off towards the Otún Quimbaya Fauna and Flora Sanctuary, situated to the southwest of Pereira.
The journey will take us 18 kilometers along the road leading to this natural haven, nestled in the Cordillera Central of the Colombian Andes. This sanctuary is notable for its exceptional biodiversity, teeming with numerous bird species, insects, small mammals, and a variety of plants.
Upon reaching our destination, we'll embark on a 2-kilometer hiking trail that winds through the Andean rainforest. The trek is classified as easy, and you will benefit from the expertise of an environmental guide who will navigate the trails and hills, revealing the breathtaking landscapes of this protected region.
As we hike, we’ll pause for a traditional local meal, featuring a dish and beverage, before resuming our exploration of the surroundings.
The Otún Quimbaya Sanctuary plays a crucial role in conserving endangered species. Look out for fascinating birds like the moustached antpitta, multicolored tanager, and torrent duck. You may also encounter mammals such as monkeys, tapirs, and pacaranas, which is recognized as Colombia's second-largest rodent!
At the conclusion of our excursion, we will return to Pereira, where we will drop you off at your hotel by approximately 2 pm.
