Pereira Panela Tour
Having picked you up from your hotel in Pereira at 8 am, we'll begin our panela tour. We'll travel to a farm where this natural sweetener is grown.
At the farm, we'll see the sugar cane plantations and visit a sugar mill to learn how panela is made. The trapiches paneleros are small factories where the sugar cane is ground, and the juice obtained is filtered and beaten traditionally. Colombia has around 20,000 of these trapiches.
We will also discuss the importance of panela in Colombian gastronomy, as it's used as a substitute for sugar in desserts and traditional drinks such as aguapanela, guarapo, and chicha.
After learning about the production of panela, we'll head to a natural park for a pleasant walk. You will then have free time to have lunch or explore the surroundings.
At 2 pm, we'll drop you off at your hotel.
