Pereira Panela Tour
Having picked you up from your hotel in Pereira at 8 am, we'll begin our panela tour. We'll learn all about this traditional product by travelling to a farm where this natural sweetener is grown. Upon arrival, we'll see the sugar cane plantations from which panela is obtained and visit a sugar mill to understand how the final product is made. The trapiches paneleros are small factories where sugar cane is ground, and the juice obtained is filtered and beaten traditionally. There are around 20,000 trapiches in Colombia.
We'll also discuss the importance of panela in Colombian gastronomy, as it is used to sweeten desserts and traditional drinks such as aguapanela, guarapo, and chicha.
After familiarising ourselves with the production of panela, we'll head to a natural park for a pleasant walk. You’ll then have some free time for lunch or to explore the surroundings.
At 2 pm, we'll drop you off at your hotel.
