Pereira Panela Tour
We will pick you up from your hotel in Pereira at 8 am to start our panela tour. This tour includes a visit to a farm where this natural sweetener is cultivated. We will see the sugar cane plantations and visit a sugar mill to learn about the production process. The trapiches paneleros are small factories where the sugar cane is ground, the juice is filtered, and then beaten traditionally. There are approximately 20,000 of these trapiches in Colombia.
Additionally, we will discuss the significance of panela in Colombian gastronomy, as it serves as a sugar substitute in desserts and traditional drinks such as aguapanela, guarapo, and chicha.
After learning about panela production, we will go to a natural park for a walk, followed by some free time for lunch or exploring the area. We will drop you off at your hotel at 2 pm.
