5-Day Journey from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap

Day 1: Phnom Penh - Kompong Cham

We will kick off our adventure in Phnom Penh with a scenic hour-long drive across the Cambodian countryside leading us to the river port. Here, we will board a traditional boat to set sail towards Silk Island, where the local artisans will guide us through the fascinating process of silk production, which includes everything from nurturing mulberry tree worms to crafting textile on age-old looms.

Upon our return, we will proceed to Kompong Cham. After a two-hour drive, a guided city tour awaits us, followed by a delightful lunch featuring local dishes. Our exploration continues at Wat Nokor Temple and Phnom Pros Monastery, where we'll engage with the resident monks before visiting the stunning mountaintop pagoda of Phnom Srey.

On our way back to the hotel in Kompong Cham for the night, we'll make a final visit to the Keung Kok fabric factory to uncover the intricacies of traditional weaving techniques.

Day 2: Kompong Cham - Kompong Thom

The second day begins with a hearty breakfast at our hotel in Kompong Cham. We will then depart for a three-hour drive through the verdant landscapes of central Cambodia, distinguished by lush rice fields. Upon reaching Kompong Thom, we will dive into the cultural and traditional life of rural Cambodia. A leisurely stroll through the city reveals unique architecture and bustling food stalls, culminating in a satisfying lunch at a local eatery.

Revitalized, we will venture to Prasar Sambor Prei Kuk Archaeological Park, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, we'll uncover red brick temples nestled in the jungle. As the day draws to a close, we will return to Kompong Thom to rest for the night.

Day 3: Kompong Thom - Siem Reap

After breakfast, we will explore the central market in Kompong Thom, mingling with locals and discovering traditional Cambodian products sold at the various stalls.

Following our time in Kompong Thom, we'll embark on a three-hour journey to Siem Reap. Our route includes a stop for lunch and a visit to the picturesque village of Kompong Kleang, situated alongside Tonlé Sap Lake. Here, we will stroll through the village, marveling at the floating houses built on stilts. By day's end, we will arrive at our hotel in Siem Reap.

Day 4: Siem Reap - Angkor Archaeological Park

After a filling breakfast, we'll head to Angkor, the once-mighty capital of the Khmer Empire. In the archaeological park, we'll traverse the remains of the city that thrived from the 9th to 15th centuries, now embraced by the jungle's roots. This historic site, famous for being a backdrop in the film Tomb Raider, promises to enchant.

Our exploration will lead us to Ta Nei, one of the park's most secluded temples. After a lunch break, we will delve into the wonders of the Angkor Thom site, taking in the stunning South Gate, the Terrace of the Elephants, and the Royal Palace. We will admire the symbiotic relationship between nature and architecture as we explore temples like Bayon, Baphuon, Preah Palilay, and Phimeanakas.

To cap off this remarkable day, we will witness the sunset at Angkor Wat Temple, providing a truly magical moment before returning to Siem Reap for the night.

Day 5: Siem Reap - Angkor Archaeological Park - Siem Reap
