Description
The Chateau de Pierrefonds, an architectural project initiated by King Charles VI in the 14th century, is located in the Hauts-de-France region. Originally a 12th-century fort, it was transformed into a unique fortress. This ticket allows access to one of the best-preserved monuments in the Oise department. Visitors receive a leaflet in English and other languages for a self-paced tour, enabling exploration of the castle's opulent rooms.
The interior features a collection of paintings, jewels, and vintage furniture spanning various historical periods, from the Middle Ages to Napoleon III, who commissioned architect Viollet-le-Duc for its restoration. The castle also served as a filming location for productions including The Story of Joan of Arc and The Man in the Iron Mask.
Opening hours
The Chateau de Pierrefonds operates with the following hours:
May 2 - September 4: 9:30 am - 6 pmSeptember 5 - April 30: 10 am - 5:30 pm
It closes early at 3:30 pm on December 24 and 31. Last entry is 1 hour before closing. Hours may vary. The Salle des Preuses is currently closed for maintenance.
Free admission
Free admission to the Chateau de Pierrefonds is available for:
EU youth aged 18-25.Children under 18, regardless of nationality.
To obtain free admission, visit the ticket office with a certifying document of eligibility. Admission is also free on the first Sunday of the month from January to March, November to December, and the third weekend of September.
