Besalú and Rupit are two of the most beautiful medieval towns in Catalonia, offering a chance to tour their bridges and cobbled streets filled with history.
Description
The tour starts in the morning with a journey of an hour and a half to Rupit, one of Catalonia's most beautiful towns. Upon arrival, participants will have free time to explore, including wandering the cobbled streets and viewing typical stone houses from the medieval period.
After exploring Rupit, the tour continues as we ascend over 1,000 metres to visit the Santuario de la Mare de Déu del Far. Here, participants can see the chapel, its interior, and enjoy spectacular views of Gerona and the surrounding countryside.
The next stop is Besalú, approximately 50 minutes from the sanctuary. This town is recognized for its well-preserved medieval architecture, highlighted by the impressive 10th-century fortress. Key sights include the medieval bridge, the Jewish Mikveh, the church of San Pedro de Besalú, and the old Pilgrim's hospital. A traditional lunch is included before heading back to the starting points.
