Besalú and Rupit are notable medieval towns in Catalonia, offering the chance to explore their historical bridges and cobbled streets.
Description
The tour starts in the morning with an hour and a half drive to Rupit. Upon arrival, participants have free time to explore the town, featuring cobbled streets and typical stone houses from the medieval era.
After exploring Rupit, the trip continues with a climb over 1,000 meters to the Santuario de la Mare de Déu del Far, where visitors can view the chapel’s interior and enjoy spectacular vistas of Gerona and the nearby countryside.
The next stop is Besalú, located about 50 minutes from the sanctuary. This town is celebrated for its well-preserved medieval architecture, including a significant 10th-century fortress.
Highlights in Besalú include the medieval bridge, the Jewish Mikveh, the church of San Pedro de Besalú, and the old Pilgrim's hospital. A traditional lunch will be provided before returning to starting points.
