Garifuna Cultural Tour
After pickup from your hotel in Placencia, we'll travel to the Garifuna village of Seine Bight.
The Garifuna community descends from Arawak, Kalinago, and Afro-Caribbean indigenous groups, present in Central American countries including Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Belize. In Belize, Garifuna are mainly in Seine Bight, where locals will extend a warm welcome.
During our village stroll, representatives will share insights about the customs, traditions, and culture of the Garifuna people. We will enjoy a traditional lunch featuring dishes from Garifuna cuisine, which merges African and Caribbean influences, highlighting various delicacies made with rice, fish, and corn.
After lunch, we will explore essential aspects of Garifuna culture, focusing on traditional music and dances. A percussion workshop will allow you to learn to play drums, maracas, and other popular instruments. Optionally, you can learn one of the Garifuna's choreographed dances.
Following the activities, we will return to Placencia, arriving at your hotel by 4 pm.
