Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the ruins of the Douglas C-47B Dakota aircraft and start our guided tour of the underground Željava Air Base. We will first explore the interior of this aircraft and then proceed to the runways to gain insight into the experiences of pilots during the Yugoslav wars.
Built during the '60s, this air base is located in the Plješevica Mountain on the border with Bosnia and was designed to resist nuclear attacks. It was the largest underground air and military base in the former Yugoslavia and one of the oldest in Europe.
During our tour, we will explore the tunnels, which stretch approximately 1.8 miles (3 kilometers), to understand life at the base during its operational days. The activity will conclude at the starting point after a duration of two and a half hours.
