Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the ruins of the Douglas C-47B Dakota aircraft and start our guided tour of the underground Željava Air Base. The tour includes an exploration of the interior of the aircraft and a visit to the runways, focusing on the experiences of pilots during the Yugoslav wars.
Created in the '60s, this air base is located in the Plješevica Mountain on the border with Bosnia, designed to withstand nuclear attacks. It holds the distinction of being the largest underground air and military base in the former Yugoslavia and one of the oldest in Europe.
During our tour, we will explore the tunnels, which extend approximately 1.8 miles (or 3 kilometers), allowing us to understand life at the base during its operational era until its destruction.
Two and a half hours later, we'll conclude the activity at the starting point.
