Excursion to Villa El Chocón + Paleontological Museum

Fascinated by the world of dinosaurs? On this excursion to Villa El Chocón, we'll visit its famous Ernesto Bachmann Paleontological Museum, which houses the skeletons of gigantic prehistoric animals!

Description

At 9 am, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Neuquén and drive for about an hour south towards Villa El Chocón.

Once we arrive, we'll embark on a tour of the town to discover its main attractions. Our first stop will be at the viewpoint of Lake Exequiel Ramos Mejía. From there, we'll witness the impressive dam of this artificial lagoon that generates hydroelectric power for a significant part of Argentina.

Next, we'll head to the center of Villa El Chocón, where you'll have some free time to explore. Those who wish can take a guided excursion to Cañadón Escondido for a trekking route through a unique ravine.

Then, we'll reconvene at the agreed time in the center of Villa El Chocón for a guided tour of the Ernesto Bachmann Paleontological Museum. There, you'll see the magnificent skeleton of Giganotosaurus Carolini, the largest prehistoric carnivore found to date.

After exploring the museum, you'll have an hour of free time for lunch in El Chocón. We will return to your hotel in Neuquén, arriving at approximately 3 pm.

Villa El Chocón & Plaza Huincul (8 hours)

To extend the excursion, we'll follow the same itinerary and have lunch in Villa El Chocón. We will then continue to Plaza Huincul, visiting the Carmen Funes Paleontological Museum to see the skeleton of Argentinosaurus Huinculensis, the largest herbivore found to date.

After the museum visit, we will go to an agritourism center for a snack on your own, and conclude the excursion by returning to Neuquén, arriving at your hotel at 5 pm.
