On this guided tour of Plovdiv, we'll delve into the history of one of the oldest cities in Bulgaria.
Tour Details
After meeting at the appointed time in front of the Ramada Hotel, we will explore the old town of Plovdiv. Our first stop will be the ruins of the Roman Stadium of Philippopolis and the Roman Theater, where we will discuss the 1st and 2nd centuries and the periods of Domitian and Hadrian.
Next, we will head to Saborna Street to visit the church of St. Constantine and St. Helena. We will then pass by Krastev Square or Lapidarium, observing the Hindliyan and Balabanov houses and learning about their historical significance.
Our tour will continue to the Armenian Catholic Church and the statue of the Great Tattletale, before reaching the Ethnographic Museum and the peak of Nebet Tepe, where we will explore Plovdiv's oldest history.
We will then visit the medieval Hisar Kapia Gate, followed by the Muslim temple of Puldin and the houses of Lamartine and Klianti, notable examples of the Bulgarian Renaissance.
Finally, we will conclude at the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary of Plovdiv and the Djumaya Mosque, discussing the city's religious traditions. Our tour will last approximately 2 hours.
