Murgia Bike Tour

On this bike tour of Murgia, we will combine sport and tourism while enjoying the nature of the Apulia region. We'll cycle through the landscapes of this plateau and visit the famous castle of Garagnone.

At the scheduled time, we'll meet at Strada Provinciale 230, next to the Poggiorsini gas station. We'll hop on our bikes and start a biking tour to discover the beautiful landscapes of the Murgia region.

We will begin the bike tour in Murgia at Jazzo Filieri, an ancient sheepfold located at the foot of the Costone Murgiano hill. We will observe the local vegetation and wildlife, discovering the contrasts between higher altitude areas and the plains.

As we cycle, we will encounter platforms previously used by U.S. military forces to test the launch of weapons of mass destruction, which were operational until 1963. We will discuss the site's connection to the Cold War.

Continuing along the Murgia plateau, we'll see farms and wheat fields until we reach Rocca del Garagnone. The ruins of this fortress blend with the limestone of the peak, earning it the nickname of the 'invisible castle.' We will cover the history of this medieval fortress of Norman origin.

After a three-hour experience, we will conclude the bike tour at the starting point.
