Our adventure begins at a designated time when we gather on João Bosco Mota Amaral Avenue in Ponta Delgada before boarding a minibus that will take us to the island's western region. Here, we will initiate our hike towards Lagoa do Fogo, the quintessential symbol of Sao Miguel.

This excursion encompasses a total distance of 7.5 miles (12 km), leading us to a lake nestled within the crater of the Água de Pau volcano. As we navigate the trail, we will pass through aromatic eucalyptus forests while discussing the distinctive flora and fauna native to the Azores. Expect to encounter several plant species that originate from distant places, including New Zealand.

Upon reaching the levada at the midway point, you will step right up to the edge of Lagoa do Fogo, where the breathtaking scenery of the volcanic lagoon awaits you. Additionally, take in the fantastic panorama of the village of Vila Franca do Campo alongside its renowned islet.

The shore of the lagoon serves as an ideal backdrop for a leisurely and satisfying picnic lunch. After this revitalizing meal, we will begin our descent through lush pastures and rich vegetation.

As we return to Ponta Delgada, a final stop at Agua D'Alto beach will conclude our journey. We will eventually make our way back to the starting point, where, after an enriching 7-hour experience, we will bid farewell.
