Lagoa do Fogo Hiking Tour

Lagoa do Fogo is Sao Miguel Island's notable natural attraction. The hike to this volcanic lagoon is essential.

Description

We will meet at João Bosco Mota Amaral Avenue in Ponta Delgada and board a minibus to the island's west side. The hike will cover a total of 7.5 miles (12 km) to reach Lagoa do Fogo, located in the crater of the Água de Pau volcano. Along the way, we will traverse eucalyptus forests and discuss the local vegetation and wildlife, including plants native to regions such as New Zealand.

Midway, we will arrive at a levada that leads to the edge of Lagoa do Fogo, offering impressive views of the lagoon and the village of Vila Franca do Campo with its notable islet.

The lagoon shore will provide a place to relax and enjoy a picnic lunch. Following lunch, we will begin our descent through pastures and vegetation.

On our return to Ponta Delgada, a stop will be made at Agua D'Alto beach before concluding the tour. The entire experience lasts approximately 7 hours.
