The Puracé volcano is renowned in Colombia as an exceptional destination for condor observation. This experience offers the chance to witness the graceful soaring of these magnificent birds and enjoy a visit to the famous San Juan hot springs.

Condor Observation Tour at Puracé + San Juan Hot Springs

Your adventure begins with a pick-up at 7:40 am from your accommodation in Popayán. From there, we will head towards the Puracé National Natural Park, nestled within the central mountain range of Colombia. The journey will take us through various indigenous villages, where we will encounter lush landscapes filled with crops of potatoes, carrots, and strawberries, while observing the traditional morning milking practices of the local farmers.

By approximately 10 am, we will reach the renowned condor stone, where we will perform a ceremonial offering. This vantage point allows us to enjoy the sight of the Andean condors up close, as they glide gracefully within just 8 meters (26 feet) for at least an hour.

During this time, we will marvel at the exquisite flight patterns of these iconic Andean creatures. Our journey will then proceed through the valley of the frailejones, native plants to Colombia known for their slow growth of just one centimeter annually.

Continuing on, we will pass by the Bedón waterfall, situated at an elevation of 3600 meters (11811 feet), and a viewpoint offering stunning views of the Andulbio lagoon, celebrated for its picturesque beauty and serene atmosphere.

Next, we'll make our way towards the enchanting Pozo de los Deseos at the Danta watering place, leading us to the highlight of the excursion: the relaxing thermal baths of San Juan.

In the final segment of this tour, enjoy some well-deserved relaxation in this natural setting. Once rejuvenated, we will head to a local eatery to savor a delicious traditional lunch. The meal typically includes grilled fish or meat served with rice, salad, soup, patacones (twice-fried plantain slices), and a hot drink.

After lunch, we will make our way back to Popayán, with an estimated arrival time of 6 pm at your hotel.
