Nevado del Huila 5-day Hiking Tour

Day 1: Popayán - Belalcázar

We'll pick you up from your hotel in Popayán at 1 pm and drive to Belalcázar. After approximately a five-hour drive, we'll arrive at the hotel where you'll have the rest of the day at your leisure.

Day 2: Belalcázar - Nevado del Huila

We'll wake up early and start our trekking route to the Nevado del Huila volcano. We will approach the indigenous reserve of Caloto Wila at 2100 metres (6889 feet) above sea level, where we will have a traditional breakfast. At 8 am, we'll start the ascent to Dublin, the last accessible point by car, marking the beginning of our hiking adventure. We'll walk along the north side of the Nevado del Huila volcano until we set up camp and spend the night at an altitude of 3600 metres (11811 feet).

Day 3: Nevado del Huila

We'll start the day at 6 am with breakfast and take a high mountain route for the second day of climbing. By midday, we'll reach Las Torres, the monitoring area of the volcano where we'll camp for the night.

Day 4: Nevado del Huila

After breakfast, we'll head to the highest part of the Nevado del Huila volcano, at 4800 metres (15748 feet). Climbers with experience and the necessary equipment, including ice axes, crampons, and harnesses, may attempt the summit. Others can enjoy breathtaking views of the volcano and its glacier. In the afternoon, we'll descend to the base camp for dinner.

Day 5: Nevado del Huila - Belalcázar

On the final day, we will descend to Dublin, where our vehicle will take us back to Caloto Wila for lunch and experience sharing before returning to Belalcázar. We will stop at Tóez to enjoy thermal baths before concluding the tour at 6 pm in Belalcázar.

Accommodation

This tour includes two nights' accommodation in an inn in Belalcázar in rooms shared among 4 people. For the remaining days, participants must bring their own tents and sleeping bags for camping during the ascent of the Nevado del Huila volcano.
