Popayán Guided Tour
On this guided tour of Popayán, you will explore significant sites in the capital of the department of Cauca, delving into the city's 16th-century history.
We will meet at the designated time at Parque Caldas to commence our guided tour of Popayán. The tour begins with a walk around this historic park, which serves as the city's main square, featuring notable buildings such as the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of the Assumption, the Archbishop's Palace, and the Clock Tower.
As we navigate the narrow streets, we will visit the Panteón de Los Próceres museum, the National Museum Guillermo Valencia, and the Humilladero Bridge. The guide will provide insights into the town's evolution, founded in 1537 by Sebastián de Belalcázar, along with the mythical legend of El Dorado.
The tour also includes visits to the Hermitage of Jesús Nazareno, the House of Doña Dionisia Mosquera, and a climb to the Morro del Tulcán pyramid for panoramic views of the city.
To conclude the tour, we will dine at a local restaurant, sampling a typical meal featuring tamales, pipiam empanadas, fruit salpicón, and drinks made from panela, corn, and cinnamon. The entire experience lasts between 2 to 3 hours, after which we will return to the starting point.
