On this day trip to Silvia, you'll embark on a journey to explore the stunning green landscapes of the 'Switzerland of America'. This experience includes a visit to a Misak community, where you will gain insights into their traditions.
Tour Overview
Our day begins with a pickup at your Popayán hotel at the scheduled time. From there, we will travel north to the Cauca department, with a scenic drive lasting approximately 1.5 hours, leading us to Silvia, a picturesque town located in a valley within the Cordillera Central of Colombia.
The lush, green vistas that characterize this Colombian region will immediately catch your eye, earning it the title of the 'Switzerland of America'. A guided tour through Silvia will allow you to discover its key highlights, such as the welcome sign, the Nuestra Señora de Chiquinquirá parish church, and the Belén viewpoint, which offers a sweeping view of the town. If your visit falls on a Tuesday, you will also get to experience the vibrant indigenous market, a hub of cultural and commercial activity.
Around noon, we will pause for a traditional lunch featuring choices like fish, meat or grilled chicken, served with side dishes and a beverage.
After lunch, we'll head to the Guambia region, where our first stop will be at Casa Payán. This location plays a significant role in conserving ancestral medicine. You will learn about the uses of local medicinal plants, their preparation methods, and the health benefits they offer. Additionally, a visit to a botanical garden of medicinal and ancestral plants will deepen your understanding of the Misak cosmovision and their relationship with the environment.
At the conclusion of our day, we will make our way back to Popayán, returning to your hotel after a fulfilling 7-hour experience.
