Tierradentro National Archaeological Park Tour
Pickup will be at 5 am at your hotel in Popayán for a full-day excursion. We will travel to Tierradentro National Archaeological Park, stopping for breakfast in the village of Inzá en route.
Upon arrival, we will conduct a tour of the park, witnessing evidence of three historical periods: pre-Hispanic, colonial, and republican. Visitors will explore pyramids and hypogea, with some burial chambers reaching a depth of 8 metres (26 feet).
The tour includes insights into the history of the Paez people, who resided in the area prior to Spanish colonization. After visiting the tombs, we will view stone statues of indigenous idols and enter the museum displaying artifacts from excavations.
A lunch break will occur around midday, offering a chicken or meat dish with rice, soup, salad, 'patacones,' and a drink. In the afternoon, we will visit the church of San Andrés de Pisimbalá, a colonial structure built of stone.
We will return to Popayán, with hotel drop-off expected between 8 pm and 9 pm.
