Tierradentro National Archaeological Park Tour
Pickup will occur at 5 am at your hotel in Popayán for this full-day excursion.
We will travel to the National Archaeological Park of Tierradentro, stopping for breakfast in the village of Inzá. After arriving, we will explore the park, which features traces of three historical periods: pre-Hispanic, colonial, and republican. The park contains pyramids and hypogea, underground tombs up to 8 metres deep, adorned with decorative elements.
Participants will learn about the Paez people, who lived here before the Spanish arrival. Following our visit to the tombs, we will view the stone statues of indigenous idols and visit the museum displaying artifacts from the excavations.
At around midday, a lunch will be served, including either a chicken or meat dish with rice, soup, salad, patacones, and a drink. In the afternoon, we will visit the church of San Andrés de Pisimbalá, a colonial stone structure with a thatched roof.
We will return to Popayán, with hotel drop-off between 8 pm and 9 pm.
