Embark on an insightful journey retracing the steps of a revolutionary figure as we explore Bolivia on this 3-day excursion along the Che Guevara route. This adventure includes notable locations such as La Higuera.

3-Day Che Guevara Route Tour

Day 1: Santa Cruz - Samaipata - Vallegrande

Our schedule begins at 6:00 am with a pick-up from your accommodation in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, setting the stage for our 3-day exploration of the Che Guevara route. Together we will navigate through the legacy of the revolutionary leader and the Bolivian National Liberation Army (ELN).

We will first travel to Samaipata, a site briefly occupied by the ELN before they retreated into the mountains to evade the authorities sent by the CIA. Here, we will explore the Fort of Samaipata, which stands as a significant archaeological site within Bolivia. As we wander through its structures, we’ll take in the intricately carved depictions of snakes and pumas adorning the walls.

Next, our journey leads us to a remarkable museum featuring artifacts unearthed during excavations before we pause for lunch at a local restaurant in Vallegrande, featuring an appetizer and a main course. Our afternoon itinerary includes a visit to the washing place of the hospital Nuestro Señor de Malta, where Che’s body was displayed after his execution, along with the monument and museum dedicated to his memory. As the day draws to a close, we will enjoy a delectable dinner and settle in for the night at our hotel.

Day 2: Vallegrande - Pucara - La Higuera

We commence our second day at 7:00 am with breakfast before heading to La Higuera, the site of Che's capture following his shooting in Quebrada del Churo. Our route, known as the Che trail, winds between La Higuera and Vallegrande and is named to honor his legacy. During our trip, we will make a brief stop at Pucara, a location mentioned in Che's Diary that was later confiscated by his captors.

Upon arrival in La Higuera, we will visit the school where Che was detained and ultimately executed on October 9, 1968. Today, this site serves as a place of homage, adorned with flowers and candles, reflecting the local community’s reverence for the figure of the guerrilla who aspired to liberate Bolivia from tyranny. After lunch, we will make our way back to Vallegrande.

Day 3: Vallegrande - Santa Cruz

On our final day, after breakfast, we will commence our return journey to Santa Cruz de la Sierra, traversing expansive cactus-filled deserts. We anticipate arriving at your hotel around 4:00 pm.

Extended Tour Option to Sucre

If you are interested in continuing your exploration along the Che Guevara route to Sucre, this option is available. The itinerary for the first two days remains unchanged, but on the second night, accommodations will be provided in Villa Serrano.

On the last day, after breakfast at 8:00 am, we will set off toward Sucre, stopping in Tomina to admire its 18th-century church and pausing for lunch before arriving in Sucre around 2:00 pm.
