In Quechua, Samaipata means "place of rest between mountains". This describes the archaeological site well. On our Fort Samaipata Day Trip, you'll visit a notable destination and its vineyards.
Fort Samaipata Day Trip
At 8 am, pickup will be from your hotel in Santa Cruz de la Sierra for our trip to the Fort and village of Samaipata. The drive takes approximately 2 hours 30 minutes, during which you can enjoy views of the mountain range known as "The Volcano".
Upon arrival, a 40-minute guided tour of the archaeological site will reveal the pre-Columbian architecture of the defensive, religious, and esoteric buildings, along with a discussion on the history of Fort Samaipata, which has connections to the Chané, Inca, and Spanish civilizations.
After the tour, we will visit the Samaipata Archaeological Museum, located 12 miles (20 kilometers) from the site, showcasing objects found during excavations across six rooms.
At around 1 pm, we'll take a 1 hour 30 minutes break for lunch at a local restaurant. The return journey to Santa Cruz will include a photo stop at the Las Cuevas and El Chorro waterfalls, with an expected return to your hotel by 6:30 pm.
