In Quechua, Samaipata means "place of rest between mountains", a name that encapsulates this archaeological site. On our Fort Samaipata Day Trip, you'll visit one of Bolivia's favorite tourist destinations and its best vineyards.
Fort Samaipata Day Trip
At 8 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Santa Cruz de la Sierra for a day trip to the Fort and village of Samaipata. The drive takes around 2 hours 30 minutes, offering views of the mountain range known as "The Volcano".
Upon arrival, we'll take a 40-minute guided tour of the archaeological site, exploring the pre-Columbian architecture of defensive, religious, and esoteric buildings. We will discuss the history of Fort Samaipata, influenced by the Chané, Inca, and Spanish civilizations.
Next, we will visit the Samaipata Archaeological Museum, located 12 miles (20 kilometers) from the site. This colonial building showcases the objects uncovered during excavations across six rooms.
At around 1 pm, we will have a 1 hour 30 minutes lunch break at a local restaurant. Afterward, we will return to Santa Cruz de la Sierra, stopping for photos at the Las Cuevas and El Chorro waterfalls.
We expect to arrive back at your hotel in Santa Cruz at around 6:30 pm.
Fort Samaipata Day Trip + Wine Route
