In Quechua, Samaipata means "place of rest between mountains", a name that encapsulates this archaeological site. On our Fort Samaipata Day Trip, you'll visit one of Bolivia's favorite tourist destinations and its best vineyards.
Fort Samaipata Day Trip
At 8 am, we will pick you up from your hotel in Santa Cruz de la Sierra to begin our day trip to the Fort and village of Samaipata. The drive will take approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, offering views of the mountain range known as "The Volcano".
Upon arrival, we'll have a 40-minute guided tour of the archaeological site. During the tour, we will explore the pre-Columbian architecture of the defensive, religious, and esoteric buildings. We will also discuss the history of Fort Samaipata under the Chané, Inca, and Spanish civilizations.
Next, we will visit the Samaipata Archaeological Museum, located 12 miles (20 kilometers) from the complex, which displays objects discovered during excavations in its six rooms.
At around 1 pm, we'll take a 1 hour and 30 minutes break for lunch at a local restaurant. We'll then return to Santa Cruz de la Sierra, stopping for photos at the Las Cuevas and El Chorro waterfalls along the way.
We expect to return to your hotel in Santa Cruz by around 6:30 pm.
