In Quechua, Samaipata means "place of rest between mountains". This archaeological site is a key destination in Bolivia, renowned for its vineyards.
Fort Samaipata Day Trip
At 8 am, pick-up starts from hotels in Santa Cruz de la Sierra for the day trip to the Fort and village of Samaipata. The drive takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, featuring views of the mountain range known as "The Volcano".
Upon arrival, a 40-minute guided tour will be conducted at the archaeological site, focusing on pre-Columbian architecture and the defensive, religious, and esoteric buildings. The history involving the Chané, Inca, and Spanish civilizations will be discussed.
Next, we will visit the Samaipata Archaeological Museum, situated 12 miles (20 kilometers) from the site, which displays items found during excavations within its six rooms.
At around 1 pm, a 1 hour 30 minutes break will be provided for lunch at a local restaurant. The return journey to Santa Cruz will include a photo stop at the Las Cuevas and El Chorro waterfalls.
We expect to arrive back at your hotel in Santa Cruz around 6:30 pm.
Fort Samaipata Day Trip + Wine Route
An optional tour of the best vineyards in Bolivia is also available. This includes visits to Landsua and Uvairenda vineyards, where you will learn about wine production and participate in tastings. The day concludes with lunch at the El Pueblito hotel in Samaipata before returning to Santa Cruz, arriving around 7 pm.
