Jesuit Missions 2-Day Tour
Day 1: Santa Cruz - San Javier - Concepción
At 7:30 am, we will pick you up from your hotel in Santa Cruz de la Sierra and embark on the 136-mile (220-kilometre) journey to San Javier, passing through villages such as Cotoca, Pailas, Pailón, and Troncos. Upon arrival, we will visit the iconic mission church, the first mission founded by the Jesuits.
We will discuss the history of the Jesuit Missions, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in the 1990s. Topics will include the reasons behind establishing the first Catholic reductions and the challenges faced.
After a typical lunch with a starter and a main course, we will continue the tour to Concepción. You will have free time to explore the town and attend mass before dinner.
Day 2: Concepción - Calama - Santa Cruz
At 8:30 am, we will have breakfast and then hike to the Calama Stone, a 20-minute walk offering views of the Chiquitano Valley. After hiking, we will return to Concepción to visit its church and 18th-century missionary museum, which features carvings by the Chiquitanos.
Following lunch, we will return to Santa Cruz de la Sierra. En route, we will stop at the Paquio stones to observe buffaloes and at San Javier for a break. We aim to drop you off at your hotel in Santa Cruz at 7 pm.
