Samaipata 2 Day Trip
Day 1: Santa Cruz - Samaipata
At 8 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel and set off west from Santa Cruz de la Sierra towards Samaipata. On the way, you'll observe views of the rugged Bolivian plains and small villages.
Before reaching our destination, we'll stop at Cuevas, known for its beautiful waterfalls. Here, you'll have free time for lunch before continuing on to Fort Samaipata, which means "rest between mountains" in Quechua, describing these pre-Columbian ruins nestled in the mountains.
We'll visit the archaeological complex of Samaipata, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998, and explore its stone-carved buildings. This site has been inhabited by three different civilizations. After the tour, we'll stay overnight in the town of Samaipata.
Day 2: Samaipata - Santa Cruz
After breakfast, we'll visit Samaipata, founded by Spanish settlers in 1618 due to its strategic location. During our visit, we will learn about its historical significance, including its role in Che Guevara's guerilla campaign in Bolivia.
We'll then visit the Archaeological Museum of Samaipata, a colonial-style building housing ceramics, statuettes, and other artifacts from the fort excavations.
After two days, we'll return to Santa Cruz de la Sierra, arriving at around 6 pm to drop you off at your hotel.
