3-Day Itinerary: San José, Santiago de Chiquitos & Chochís

First Day: Departure from Santa Cruz to San José

We will commence our expedition at 7 am with a pickup from your accommodation in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, setting our course for the stunning Chiquitania region. Known for its striking scenery and cultural significance, this area of Bolivia offers a unique encounter. After a scenic three-hour drive, we'll arrive in San José de Chiquitos, one of the missionary settlements established by the Jesuits in the 17th century.

Upon arrival, we will visit the Mission Church of San José, distinguished as the only church in the region with a stone exterior. At noon, a stop for a traditional two-course lunch awaits us at a local restaurant.

Post-lunch, we will make our way to El Telar, a handicraft workshop where we will explore Chiquitano weavings that originate from the colonial era. Here, the artisan ladies will prepare a delightful charcoal tea using traditional methods.

Next, we will proceed to a scenic viewpoint to take in the vastness of the dry forests. A coffee break will also allow you to watch the artisans making Chiquitano rice bread. Dinner will be served at 8 pm, after which we can unwind for the night.

Second Day: From San José to Santiago de Chiquitos and Robore

After enjoying breakfast, we will bid farewell to San José and make our way to Santiago de Chiquitos, where we will visit the missionary church with its captivating wooden façade.

Our adventure continues with a hike in the dry forests of the Tucabaca Valley. Following a lunch break, we’ll head to Robore. Here, you can either indulge in the hot springs or unwind with a relaxing massage and facial.

Post pampering, we will return to Santiago for dinner before retiring for the night.

Final Day: Chochís to Santa Cruz

Breakfast will kick-start our day at 8:30 am as we prepare to travel to Chochís. Once we arrive in this picturesque town nestled within striking natural surroundings, we will visit the Mariano de la Torre sanctuary, set against the backdrop of the iconic Torre del Portón monument, a massive reddish rock that stands as a hallmark of Chochís.

After our explorations, we’ll begin our journey back to Santa Cruz, stopping for lunch at the Brasileiro restaurant along the way, ultimately returning to your hotel by 6 pm.
