Abolishing previous landscapes over 30 years ago, the eruption of a volcano in southeastern Washington left a remarkable imprint on the region. Located just 80 kilometers (50 miles) from Portland, Mount Saint Helens stands out as a significant geological attraction. Eager to learn more? Let’s embark on this adventure!
We will convene at 523 NE 19th Avenue at the specified time before heading towards Mount Saint Helens. Throughout our journey, we will share insights about the area’s notable geological features, including details about the momentous eruption on May 18, 1980.
Upon our arrival, we’ll embark on a hike along one of the premier trails in Mount Saint Helens. This scenic route leads us past waterfalls, lava caves, and splendid forests. Are you aware that you can find the largest lava cave in North America in this region?
Time permitting, we will also explore the nearest viewpoint to the crater, an ideal location to delve into the activities of this stratovolcano. Additionally, we will pause for a picnic lunch by Spirit Lake, where you can relish your meal amidst nature’s tranquility!
Following this, we will continue our exploration of Mount Saint Helens' surroundings. Our return trip to Portland will include a brief stop at a local bar where you may opt for a drink or snack if desired.
After a full day of about 12 hours, we will conclude our journey at the original meeting point.
