Tour Details
The Industrial and Handicraft Textile Museum (MIAT) is located inside an old carpet factory in Mira de Aire, Portugal. This century-old building is home to a vast collection of artisanal equipment and industrial machines used in the wool transformation process.
Throughout this guided tour of the MIAT, you'll learn about the history of the golden age of Portuguese textiles, when Mira de Aire and Minde were sector leaders in the 20th century.
During the visit, you'll learn about the different stages of the textile process, including wool shearing, washing, carding, dyeing, and sewing. You'll also discover how blankets and other textile garments are crafted.
This tour lasts between 1 hour and 1.5 hours, concluding with intriguing curiosities about the textile world.
Opening Times
The MIAT opens Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 1 pm and from 2 pm to 6 pm. The guided visits occur every 60 minutes. Visitors may also explore the museum at their own pace without a guide.
