Tour Details
The Industrial and Handicraft Textile Museum (MIAT) is situated in an old carpet factory in Mira de Aire, Portugal. This century-old building houses a collection of artisanal equipment and industrial machines utilized in the wool transformation process.
During the guided tour of the MIAT, you will learn about the golden age of Portuguese textiles, when Mira de Aire and Minde dominated this sector in the 20th century. The tour covers different stages of the textile process, including wool shearing, washing, carding, dyeing, and sewing. Additionally, you will discover how blankets and other textile garments are made.
The tour lasts between 1 hour and 1.5 hours and concludes with fascinating curiosities about the textile world.
Opening Times
The MIAT is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 1 pm and from 2 pm to 6 pm. Guided visits occur every 60 minutes. Alternatively, guests can explore the museum independently.
