Caracoles Mine Tour

  • 4 Stunden

With this excursion to the Caracoles mine, we'll explore an active mine in Potosí.

Caracoles Mine Tour

At the selected time, we will meet in front of the National Mint of Bolivia to start our adventure through one of the working mines of Potosí.

We will take a bus to the outskirts of the city, specifically to Cerro Rico, the most significant silver deposit globally. This site was where most of the silver was extracted during colonial times, contributing to the wealth of the Spanish Empire.

We will don our safety equipment and visit the mining market and the chemical laboratory for mineral analysis and classification.

Next, we will ascend the hill, stopping at a viewpoint to enjoy the views of Potosí. We will then enter the Caracoles mine, one of the few remaining active mines from colonial times.

Upon entry, we will be greeted by Tío, the miners' protector. We will then walk for two hours through the tunnels, passing by miners at work.

After a four-hour tour, we will return to the starting point in Potosí.
