Kari Kari Lagoons Hike
We'll meet at 8:45 am at Ayacucho Street in Potosí to begin the hiking route. A bus will take us out of the city center, revealing the transition in architecture as we approach the mountains.
Along the way, we will see the refining plants for the minerals extracted from the mines.
Upon arrival, we will start a fifteen-minute ascent to the Kari Kari lagoons: San Ildefonso, Chalviri, San Rafael, and San Pablo, which were built in the 16th century. Participants will enjoy views of Cerro Rico and the local flora and fauna. We will continue to the mountain summit at an altitude of 5000 meters.
A picnic lunch will be enjoyed at the Apacheta viewpoint before we begin our descent, offering one of the best panoramic views of Potosí. The tour will conclude at the starting point by 4:00 pm, where transport will return us to Potosí.
Add an extra day
This option includes dinner at the mountain top, where we will spend the night with a traditional Apacheta family. Dinner consists of soup and a main course. The following morning, we will rise at dawn for breakfast and continue our hike to the Chaqui hot springs.
Participants will relax in the therapeutic waters and have a two-course lunch before taking transport back to Potosí, arriving at approximately 3:00 pm.
