Kari Kari Lagoons Hike
We'll meet at 8:45 am at Ayacucho Street in Potosí to begin this hiking route. We'll board a bus that will take us out of the city center, observing the architecture transitioning to a pre-colonial feel as we approach the mountains.
Along the way, we'll see the exterior of the refining plants for minerals extracted from the mines.
Upon arrival, we will start a fifteen-minute ascending route to the Kari Kari lagoons: San Ildefonso, Chalviri, San Rafael, and San Pablo, which were built in the 16th century.
Enjoy views of the slopes, including the Cerro Rico, and encounter the Andean flora and fauna. We’ll continue walking to the top of the mountain, situated at an altitude of 5000 kilometers.
We will take a break for a picnic lunch at the Apacheta viewpoint before descending the mountain, offering one of the best panoramic views of Potosí.
At the starting point, transport will pick us up to return to Potosí, with the tour ending at 4 pm.
Add an extra day
With this option, after reaching the top of the mountain, we'll have dinner and spend the night in the home of a traditional Apacheta family. Dinner will consist of soup and a main course. The next morning, we'll rise at dawn for breakfast and continue our hike to the Chaqui hot springs.
We will enjoy the therapeutic waters and have a two-course lunch before taking transport back to Potosí, arriving at 3 pm.
