Potosi Mines Tour + Thuru Museum
We will meet at the designated time in front of the Casa de la Moneda to begin the tour. This experience is suitable for those preferring to understand the history and operations of the mines without going underground.
The tour will start at the mining market, where we will observe products used in the mines, including nitroglycerine. Next, we will visit the chemical laboratory for mineral selection, followed by a stop at a viewpoint offering a panoramic view of Potosí.
After that, we will examine the exterior of the Candelaria and Rosario mines to learn about their significance since colonial times. Notably, 80% of the world's silver originates from Cerro Rico, which translates to 'Rich Mountain'.
The final stop is the Thuru Museum, named after a refining invention in operation since colonial times. We will view the exhibit featuring collections of minerals and samples of mining materials from that era.
We will conclude the tour by returning to Potosí, with an expected duration of three to four hours after departure.
