Santa Teresa Convent Guided Tour
We will meet at your chosen time on Calle Ayacucho and walk to the Santa Teresa Convent, a notable religious complex in Potosí.
This monastery, founded in 1685 by the Order of the Discalced Carmelites in honour of Saint Teresa of Avila, transitioned to a museum of religious art in 1976 after the community of nuns moved to a modern building. The convent now houses one of the most important collections in Latin America.
During the guided tour, we will visit the main church and the Hermitage of the Immaculate Conception, which serve as spiritual retreats for newly professed nuns and feature Baroque altarpieces.
We will explore the museum's different rooms, including the Sala de la Virgen Niña, showcasing textiles and embroidery made by the sisters, as well as the Sala de los Clásicos and the Sala del Belén.
Finally, we will visit the convent's courtyards to observe the small gardens where the Carmelites engaged in agricultural work.
After a 2-hour tour, we will conclude at the museum's exit.
