Tour of the National Mint of Bolivia
Your journey will commence at your preferred time, in front of the National Mint of Bolivia, a pivotal location in both Bolivian history and the era of the Spanish Empire.
Upon entering the site, you will be captivated by its grand entrance cloister. This cloister is just one of the five courtyards that comprise the National Mint. Above the courtyard arcades, a striking giant mask with a playful grin awaits your discovery. Join us to unveil the identity of this figure and learn the story behind its whimsical expression!
As we navigate through various rooms, we will uncover the significant role this institution played during the colonial period when the Villa Imperial de Potosí flourished as one of the wealthiest cities globally.
The museum showcases an array of artworks, numismatic exhibits, smelting furnaces, and antique machinery that were essential in producing these precious coins. Among the artifacts are examples of reales (historic Spanish currency), marks, and a variety of gold and silver coins.
Concluding our tour, we will visit the gift shop, where you can purchase unique souvenirs made of brass, copper, or silver, or have the opportunity to mint your own coin!
After an hour and a half of exploration, we will part ways at the museum’s exit.
