Tour of the National Mint of Bolivia
We'll meet at the time of your choice in front of the National Mint of Bolivia, a significant site in the history of Bolivia and the Spanish Empire.
Upon entering, we will see the majestic entrance cloister and one of the 5 courtyards of the National Mint. We will also encounter a giant mask with a mocking smile above the arcades of the courtyard, exploring its identity and the reason behind its expression.
During our exploration of the various rooms, we will learn about the vital role of this institution during the viceregal era, when the Villa Imperial de Potosí became one of the richest cities in the world.
The museum showcases paintings, numismatic collections, smelting furnaces, and historical machines used for minting coins. We will see examples of reales (old Spanish coins), marks, and gold and silver coins.
At the conclusion of the hour and a half tour, we will visit the gift store, where you can purchase brass, copper, or silver souvenirs or even stamp your own coin!
We will conclude our tour at the exit of the museum.
