Monte Tchota and Pico de Antonia Hike
At the indicated time, we will pick you up from your hotel in the capital of Cape Verde and head to Rui Vaz. In this mountain village, located at the foot of a valley, we will start our hike through the interior of Santiago island. Remember to bring your camera to capture the natural landscapes.
The first stop will be at a cheese factory, where we will learn about the production process. The 4-hour route will take us to the highest points of Santiago island. The first peak is Mount Tchota at 2600 ft, part of a notable Natural Park in Cape Verde.
At the top, we will encounter a unique microclimate, known for its cool temperatures. We will discuss the native fauna and high biodiversity of the area, before continuing our trek to Pico de Antonia, at 4500 feet high.
From the summit, panoramic views of San Jorge Valley can be enjoyed, and if clear, the islands of Maio and Fogo may also be visible. We will have a picnic lunch at the summit before walking back to Rui Vaz and driving back to Praia. Total duration is 7.5 hours.
