Praia & Cidade Velha Guided Tour
We will commence our adventure with a timely pickup from your accommodation in Praia, ready to explore the capital of Cape Verde.
Your first destination is the Doñ María Pía Lighthouse, situated at the southernmost tip of Santiago Island. From here, you will be treated to breathtaking vistas of the Atlantic Ocean. Following that, we will proceed to the Plateau neighborhood for a walking tour through the historic heart of Praia. Stroll through Alexandre Albuquerque Square to admire the Presidential Palace, the Church of Our Lady of Grace, and the Jaime Mota Barracks.
Adjacent to the square is the Praia Municipal Market, where vibrant stalls brim with fresh fruits and vegetables. After experiencing the local market, we will continue to the Sucupira Market, known for its array of handicrafts. Following our market visits, we'll travel to Cidade Velha, an ancient Portuguese settlement perched on Santiago Island's stunning southern coastline.
The remnants of Cidade Velha are recognized as a World Heritage Site and are celebrated as one of the Seven Wonders of Portuguese Origin in the World. You will observe the significance of this title as we explore the remnants of the historic cathedral and the Fuerte Real de São Filipe.
Our journey will also lead us to the Church of Our Lady of Rosário, the convent of São Francisco, and the Pelourinho, which was once the site of the slave market.
After four enriching hours of exploration, we will return you to your hotel in Praia, concluding a delightful day of discovery!
