Providence Haunted History Tour
Welcome to Rhode Island's capital! We will meet at the Rhode Island Holocaust Memorial and start a walking tour through Providence.
Initially a refuge for settlers escaping religious persecution, this colonial city became known for ghostly visitors and hauntings. Notable horror authors Edgar Allan Poe, Bram Stoker, and H.P. Lovecraft once resided here, drawing inspiration for their works from the city.
Our first stop will be Brown College's University Hall, which served as an emergency hospital during the Revolutionary War. Reports of lost spirits roaming the halls have been common among students and staff.
Next, we will visit the Providence Athenaeum Library, a favorite of H.P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe. It was here that Poe courted Sarah Helen Whitman, and residents claim his spirit haunts the library.
We will then stroll to the Shunned House, the inspiration for H.P. Lovecraft's horror novel. Many believe the ghostly apparitions described in his fiction are real. Our guide will share details about the haunted 18th-century home, including unsolved mysteries, tragic murders, and horrific creatures.
After a 1-hour spine-tingling tour, we will conclude at the Fleur de Lys Studio.
