Providence Haunted History Tour
Welcome to the capital city of Rhode Island! We'll meet at the Rhode Island Holocaust Memorial and set off on a walking tour through Providence.
This colonial city began as a refuge for settlers escaping religious persecution and became notable for ghostly visitors and hauntings. Famous authors such as Edgar Allan Poe, Bram Stoker, and H.P. Lovecraft resided here, drawing inspiration from its eerie atmosphere.
Our first stop will be Brown College's University Hall, formerly an emergency hospital during the Revolutionary War. Reports of ghosts wandering its halls are common among students and staff.
Next, we'll visit the Providence Athenaeum Library, favored by H.P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe. Residents assert Poe's spirit still lingers in the library from his time spent courting Sarah Helen Whitman.
We will then proceed to the Shunned House, which inspired H.P. Lovecraft's horror novel. Many believe the apparitions in his writings are real. The guide will share in-depth stories about this haunted 18th-century home, including unsolved mysteries, tragic murders, and horrific creatures.
After a 1-hour tour exploring Providence's paranormal history, we will conclude at the famous Fleur de Lys Studio.
