Why visit the Castelnau-Bretenoux Castle?
Castelnau-Bretenoux Castle, located in the Lot region of Prudhomat, is a significant medieval fortress dating back to the 12th century. The castle, a symbol of the Castelnau barons, underwent renovations in the 15th and 16th centuries to strengthen its defenses against artillery. Following the last Castelnau's death in 1715, it fell into disrepair and suffered a fire in 1851. Restoration efforts by Jean Mouliérat in the late 19th and early 20th centuries revived the castle. Visitors can explore a collection of period furniture, tapestries, and sacred art pieces curated by Mouliérat. The castle offers panoramic views of the Prudhomat landscape.
