Why visit the Castelnau-Bretenoux Castle?
Located in the village of Prudhomat in the Lot region, the Castelnau-Bretenoux Castle is a notable medieval fortress in northern Occitania. Your ticket provides access to this fortress, dating back to the 12th century. Initially built by the Castelnau barons, it was renovated in the 15th and 16th centuries to improve its defenses due to artillery advancements.
After the last Castelnau died in 1715, the castle fell into disrepair, worsened by a fire in 1851. Restoration efforts by Jean Mouliérat, a tenor, in the late 19th to early 20th centuries revived the castle. His curated collection includes period furniture, tapestries, and sacred art pieces.
Visitors can also enjoy a panoramic view of the Prudhomat landscape from the castle’s windows.
