Explore the rich cultural heritage of the Mapuche community in Pucón. Discover their traditions, ceremonies, and dances while engaging in one of their ancient sports.
Mapuche Cultural Experience
Your journey begins at 2 PM with a pickup from your accommodation in Pucón, followed by a drive to the outskirts where a local Mapuche community is nestled near the impressive Villarrica Volcano.
As we explore the community, you will gain insights into the traditions and history of the Mapuche people by visiting various rucas, or traditional homes. Here, different families will share their perspectives on life, along with narratives about their pivotal customs, dances, rites, and spiritual practices.
During your visit, you will engage in hands-on activities such as toasting wheat and spinning wool. Additionally, you can try on traditional Mapuche attire; women often wear a dress known as ñaña, while men typically don a garment called huentro.
Next, we will host some games of palín and chueca, two enjoyable traditional sports, where you will learn the rules and background of these age-old pastimes.
After delving into the heritage of Chile’s largest indigenous population, we will conclude the day with a return journey to your hotel in Pucón, arriving by 6 PM.
Pickup Information
The activity includes pickup from hotels located in central Pucón. For those staying in less central areas, you can be collected at the designated pickup point: Calle Pedro de Valdivia, 375.
