Güirá Oga Wild Animals Shelter Day Trip
On the Güirá Oga Wild Animals Shelter Day Trip, you will observe various native animal species that cannot return to the wild due to injuries. You will also learn about the care each animal requires.
Picks up will occur at 10 am from your hotel in Puerto Iguazú, followed by transport to the Güirá Oga Wild Animals Shelter located on the outskirts of the city.
The Güirá Oga centre, meaning "the house of birds" in Guaraní, is set in a jungle environment and was founded in 1997 by Jorge Anfuso and Silvia Elsegood, specialists in rehabilitating birds of prey and other animals.
You will explore the shelter's facilities and understand how animals from Iguazú and the Misiones province are cared for. It is important to note that Güirá Oga is not a zoo, but a conservation centre for species that cannot be reintroduced into the wild for various reasons.
During the tour, you will see how monkeys, toucans, leopards, and other animals recover from their ailments. Additionally, you'll visit the areas for veterinary care, feeding, species rehabilitation, and captive breeding.
After an insightful day at the Güirá Oga Wild Animals Shelter, you will be returned to your hotel in Puerto Iguazú by 11:30 am.
