Around the picturesque Chubut River valley, there are several towns with curious Welsh names, such as Rawson, Trelew, and Gaiman. Discover this corner of Argentina's Welsh community and culture on a tour from Puerto Madryn.
Chubut Valley Trip
The trip begins with a departure from your hotel in Puerto Madryn to Rawson, the capital of Chubut province. Here, you will board a boat for a dolphin watching cruise to observe marine life in the southern Atlantic region.
After the cruise, we will proceed to Playa Union for free time to enjoy local seafood at nearby restaurants. Following this break, we will continue to the Chubut River valley, where Welsh colonists established a community. The next stop is Gaiman, which showcases the Welsh legacy through its historic railway station and colonial homes from the late 19th century. In Gaiman, visit a classic teahouse for traditional Welsh tea and biscuits.
The final stop is Trelew, which developed after the Central Chubut Railway linked it to Puerto Madryn. You will learn about the significance of this railway in the region's evolution. Additionally, we will visit a lagoon in town, home to flamingos and diverse bird species. The tour concludes with a visit to the Egidio Feruglio Paleontological Museum, featuring impressive dinosaur fossils, before returning to your hotel in Puerto Madryn.
