Join us on a day trip from Puerto Madryn along the Valdés Peninsula to spot various species of animals native to this area of Patagonia - an unforgettable journey in the spectacular Argentine province of Chubut!
Day Trip Details
After being picked up at your hotel in Puerto Madryn, we will head to the Valdes Peninsula nature conservation area.
Our first stop will be to pay the entrance fee to enter the reserve. Following this, we will visit the Carlos Ameghino isthmus visitor center, a narrow strip of land (barely 6 kilometers/3.7 miles wide) joining the continental territory of the Argentine province of Chubut with the Valdés Peninsula. At this initial stop, we will have our first glimpse of the local plant and wildlife before moving on to the village of Puerto Pirámides. Here, between June 15 and December 15, there is an option to take a boat trip for whale watching.
Those who do not wish to participate in the boat ride will have free time to explore Puerto Pirámides. Next, we will go to Caleta Valdés, where we will make up to three stops depending on the season. The first will be at the cove, providing a view of how the sea traces the entrance of the Valdés Peninsula inlet. The second stop will be at Punta Cantor, home to elephant seals and sea lions year-round. The third stop will be at the penguin colony, where from September to April we can observe the Magellanic penguins. If the weather permits, there is also a chance of spotting killer whales.
The tour will continue to a location to observe guanacos, choiques, maras, hares, foxes, and armadillos as we proceed to Punta Norte. Here, from September to December, we will spot elephant seals, and from December to May, a colony of sea lions. Again, sightings of killer whales remain possible under favorable conditions.
After this exploration, you will have time for lunch on your own before we return to Puerto Madryn. Arrival at your hotel is scheduled 10 hours after pickup.
