Enjoy the incredible experience of seeing majestic southern right whales in the Valdes Peninsula, one of the most biodiverse areas of Argentina.

Whale Watching Details

We'll pick you up from your hotel in Puerto Madryn and head to the El Doradillo Protected Natural Area, just 30 minutes away, where we can see whales swimming up close, only 25 metres away. Next, we'll visit the Istmo Carlos Ameghino Centre to learn about local flora and fauna, and then the Puerto Pirámides villa, where we may observe whales, cormorants, and sea lions.

From Puerto Pirámides, you can take an optional submersible boat trip lasting 90 minutes to see the whales closer to their natural habitat. The boat trip concludes at the Puerto Pirámides dock, followed by free time for lunch before returning to your hotel in Puerto Madryn.

Day Trip Options

Reservation options include three types of day trips, each occurring during different seasons due to the whale reproductive cycle.

Coast

This includes the whale-watching bus trip and touring the beaches of El Doradillo and Las Canteras.

Season: until mid-October

Traditional

This option includes a boat ride around Golfo Nuevo to see southern right whales in their natural habitat, searching a 10-mile radius.

Season: until mid-December

Yellow Submarine

This option features a semi-submersible vessel to view whales from above and below through 40 windows.

Season: until the end of October

Hotel Pick Up

Pickup times depend on the tide, and the local provider will confirm the exact time after your reservation.

Important Info

The whale watching season runs from June to December, but not all species are guaranteed to be seen. From November 1 to December 15, we'll visit the Isla de Pajaros Operations Centre instead of El Doradillo.

Penguin Spotting

We also offer a penguin spotting excursion to Punta Tombo between September and December, home to the largest colony of Magellanic penguins in South America.
