Enjoy the experience of seeing majestic southern right whales in the Valdes Peninsula, one of Argentina's biodiverse areas.

Whale Watching Details

Pickup will be from your hotel in Puerto Madryn, followed by a trip to the El Doradillo Protected Natural Area, located 30 minutes away, where whales can be seen swimming up close, only 25 metres away. The tour includes a visit to the Istmo Carlos Ameghino Centre to learn about local flora and fauna, and a stop at Puerto Pirámides villa to potentially see whales, cormorants, and sea lions.

From Puerto Pirámides, you can opt for a 90-minute submersible boat trip to view the whales in their natural habitat. After the boat trip, there will be time for lunch before returning to your hotel in Puerto Madryn.

Day Trip Options

Choose one of the following options for your trip, each occurring in different seasons:

Coast

This includes the whale-watching bus trip and visits to the beaches of El Doradillo and Las Canteras.
Season: until mid-October.

Traditional

This option includes a boat ride around Golfo Nuevo to see southern right whales up close. You'll search within a 10-mile radius for optimal views, with added chances to see sea lions and Patagonian birds from spring onwards.
Season: until mid-December.

Yellow Submarine

This option features a semi-submersible vessel to view whales from both above and below the surface through 40 windows in the cabin.
Season: until the end of October.

Hotel Pick Up

Pickup times from various hotels in Puerto Madryn vary with the tide, and the local provider will confirm the exact pickup time post-reservation.

Important Info

The whale watching season runs from June to December, though sightings are not guaranteed. From November 1 to December 15, the tour will visit the Isla de Pajaros Operations Centre instead of El Doradillo.

Penguin Spotting

For more wildlife experiences, there is a penguin spotting excursion to Punta Tombo available, featuring the largest colony of Magellanic penguins in South America, from September to December.
