On this birdwatching tour on the Carretera Austral from Puerto Montt , we will observe bird species along one of Chile's main land routes.

Birdwatching on the Carretera Austral

We will pick you up at your hotel in Puerto Montt at 11:00 am and drive along the Carretera Austral to spot birds that inhabit this area.

We will first pass by the fishermen's coves of Coihuin, Chamiza, and Piedra Azul until we reach the Pichi Quillaipe sector. Continuing along the Carretera Austral, we will arrive at the beach resort of Pelluco, where we will walk to observe the main native birds.

Weather permitting, we will see endemic birds such as black-necked swans, southern pylons and gulls. Next, we will visit the church of Santa Cruz de Pelluco and proceed on the Carretera Austral to Piedra Azul for a short break.

We will then take Chilean Route 7 back to the Lenca sector. During this segment, we will explore the possibility of observing other birds such as the cahuil and the chucao, learning to distinguish them by their plumage, beak color, and trills.

Finally, we will return to your hotel in Puerto Montt, arriving at 4 pm.
