Day Trip to Surire Salt Flat
Our departure is scheduled for 7 am from your hotel in Putre, as we commence our journey toward the stunning Las Vicuñas National Reserve. Located just south of this protected area and adjacent to the Bolivian border, we will arrive at the magnificent Surire Salt Flat Natural Monument.
At an impressive elevation of 13,927 feet (4,245 meters), this salt flat boasts one of South America's most significant flamingo nesting sites. The diverse wildlife in this segment of the Andes includes rheas, vicuñas, alpacas, llamas, and guallatas, providing ample opportunity for wildlife observation.
As we traverse various landscapes—comprising rivers, lagoons, volcanoes, and high-altitude wetlands—we will also visit local inhabited areas like the charming village of Guallatire, featuring its quaint church.
If you feel hungry during our explorations, we will take a refreshing break for a picnic lunch, which will consist of sandwiches, dried fruits, chocolates, and refreshing natural juices. Once we recharge, we will continue our journey to the Polloquere Hot Springs.
Following an enriching day, we will make our way back to Putre, with an expected drop-off at your hotel between 5 and 7 pm.
